There are inevitabilities in life that we cannot prevent nor avoid.  By remaining in the state where we are, we rid ourselves of the opportunity to enjoy the new experiences we could obtain if we only allow personal growth into our lives.

Furthermore, personal growth helps us cope and survive.  With growth comes maturity, an important component of a stronger, more able human being.  As more and more experiences come, the better persons we ourselves become.  Refusing personal growth would be tantamount to refusing to grow up and experience the world and all it can offer as best as we can.

Personal growth is not automatic.  In fact, it can even be stunted or stopped prematurely.  The process of personal growth unveils as follows:

Recognition of the need for personal growth

There is no way an individual can begin the process of personal growth if he doesn’t recognize or acknowledge the need for it.  There are many people who do not recognize this need at all in their lives, merely chalking it up as an unnecessary effort or expense.

Recognition of this need is crucial to beginning the first steps towards change.  It’s admitting that you need improvement and that there are certain things that you haven’t achieved mainly because you have not allowed yourself to look at other possibilities.

Examination of personal areas of improvement

The next step is to recognize and identify your weaknesses.  Without knowing which areas of your life you need to improve, you will be left with a shallow knowledge of yourself.  With personal growth comes the realization of your imperfections and only by recognizing that there is something lacking can you begin to understand what you truly need.

Identification of priorities

The third step in the process of personal growth is the realization of your true life goals.  This is usually the stage where you’ll find plenty of surprises, mainly because many of the things you held as your priorities may not seem that attractive or important anymore.  Since you already recognize your weaknesses, you are now more in tune with your real needs.

Creation of goals

Once you know what you want to happen, the next step in the process of personal growth is the creation of your goals.  This could be one huge goal or multiple related goals or it could be a set of goals with no relation to each other at all – that really just depends on what you consider as important in your life.

Taking steps towards the fulfillment of those goals

With personal growth comes risk and nowhere else will you be able to experience this than when you begin to act towards the realization of your goals.  You could go there as fast as you can or you could take your time – either way, you have a direction to take that in all likelihood, will help you arrive in your true destination.
